Hi guys,
I am returning to the hobby after a long break and have never played FB before, only 40K. I was wondering if anyone could advise me as to what army would suit my playstyle?
I basically like armies that have units that are specialized for ranges combat, and units that are specialized for close combat. I don't like close combat armies with little to no ranged capabilities and vice versa. What armies would fall into this category?
Cheers

Dark Elves have solid ranged units with Reaper bolt throwers and corsiars with hand crossbows and infantry with repeater crossbows.
then specialized combat troops like black guard, and executioners.
they seem to fit the bill.

Vegetarians should eat bacon though. Not because I'm trying to force them to give up their pointless struggle against the true omnivorous way, but because bacon is made of win and awesome. -TOF-

It doesn't get much more specialised than the elves, and dark elves definately beat the pants off wood elves atm.

Can something be too venerable?? I was really looking forward to this model, and I am kinda dissapointed. It looks like he was attacked by a knick-knack store. And honestly, does a mechanized coffin with a mostly dead guy inside need a loin cloth?

I'd say Orcs and Goblins. They have loads of cheap artillery, almost every kind of unit can have bows, and they love to fight!

Dark Elves can do both, O&G can do both. And the empire has gotten quite the close combat and shooting boost. Mortars and 50 man halberdier hordes with WPs and armour piercing banner ftw!

Empire is the way to go for you... plus all the extra sprue material can be used for your 40K stuff.

I want to see more well-rounded Empire armies out there.

What kind of Empire armies have you faced so far that aren't well rounded?

Skaven!
Seriously, though, Empire is pretty flexible if memory serves me so you could make any kind of army you really want to. Dark Elf units are even more specialized, though.
Dwarfs have boatloads of shooting and are pretty tough in hand to hand, but move at a painfully slow pace, so that could be a factor.

what kind of armies do they run down there?
im curious, because with the new 8th edition theres been some big shuffles. but I see fairly balanced empire here.
2500 points might have 4 warmachines, but some magic and a horde block, if not 3 big blocks of infatry. little bit of action for all of the phases.

Pretty much stationary armies that bunker around war machines and wizards. But I haven't played in a few months.
