i'm not sure how blowing up your 25 man spears is the "right solution" to magic but it has it's pluses over the old system

Perhaps, but the same thing could happen before - only now, moreso!
Overall I feel like the random elements that were introduced into major game concepts - charge distances, power dice generation - really did a lot for the game. Both are somewhat compensated by other rules (no more guessing distances and dispel dice generation), and allow for a lot of different playstyles. I might make a thread to discuss 8th...
